The Rock of Cashel

Things to Do
The Cashel Palace’s 28 acres of garden are in fact older than the house itself, with two charming Mulberry trees, planted in 1702, to commemorate the coronation of Queen Anne. These beautiful gardens surround the Rock of Cashel and the 13th Century Cathedral. They were originally an integral part of the Cathedral’s grounds. The Bishop’s Walk is a private path leading directly to the Rock of Cashel, built for the convenience of Archbishop Theophilus Bolton.

We own a private 5 mile stretch of the River Suir, providing guests with the ultimate “Complete Anglers” experience. In season, we can also arrange Hunting and Shooting parties. There are several Golf Courses to choose from all within easy driving distance of the hotel, as well as Equestrian Centres, Scenic Walks, Historic Tours and Crafts Studios.

Golf
There are many courses in the region.

Walking
The Bishops Walk, Our private walkway in the gardens of the Hotel leads to the world famous Rock of Cashel, the oldest ecclesiastical site in Europe.

Also in Cashel and well worth a visit is close to the base of the Rock, the Dominican Friary founded in 1243 and within a mile of the friary are the ruins of Hoare Abbey, a Cistercian daughter-house of Mellifont in County Louth and the last Cistercian house to be founded in medieval Ireland. The Bolton Library which houses an impressive collection of antiquarian and rare books and manuscripts including a monk's encyclopaedia from 1168 and pages of Chaucer's Book of Fame is also a must.
