Day 1 Arrival - London Area
Individual arrival to Gatwick or Heathrow airport. Collect your
rental car and proceed to your hotel near the airport. If you
are feeling energetic you could visit nearby Hampton Court Palace
or Windsor Castle.
Day 2 London - Stonehenge
- Plymouth
Journey
to Salisbury where you can visit Stonehenge. Situated on Salisbury
Plain, Stonehenge is a unique, prehistoric World Heritage Site
that is surrounded by ancient burial mounds. Continue to Wardour
Castle, rarely visited due to limited access. Wardour is truly
a magical place beautifully sited beside a lake. Your journey
continues through the beautiful Wiltshire countryside where you
will see many pretty villages. Continue to Plymouth/Torquay for
overnight.
Day 3 Torquay
Today,
travel along the beautiful coastline of the English Riviera to
Torquay. Torquay has been one of the UK 's top holiday destinations
since Victorian Times when the anyone who was anyone had an attractive
villa by the sea. Stunning views are to be seen just about every
where across the Bay and out over the English Channel Return
to Plymouth for overnight.
Day 4 Dartmoor
This morning start
off with a tour of the magnificent Castle Drogo, which has beautiful
gardens with stunning views of Dartmoor. Continue the day with
a tour of Dartmoor National Park, see wild Dartmoor Ponies, quaint
thatched cottages and heather clad moors Stop at Buckland-in-the-Moor,
one of the most picturesque thatch and granite villages in Dartmoor.
Return to your hotel for overnight.
Day 5 Tintagel Castle, Pencarrow
& Padstow
This morning continue
your journey to Cornwall. Visit Cotehele, a magical Tudor house
with wonderful gardens in the Tamar valley. Next visit magical
Tintagel Castle, the legendary birthplace of King Arthur and
known as the 'place of legends'. Famous also as the home of Merlin
the Magician, Tintagel is one of the most awe-inspiring and romantic
spots in Britain. Continue to Pencarrow - the home of the Molesworth-St
Aubyn family and definitely a lived-in house, not a museum, as
you will find out when you visit. After lunch, continue to the
picturesque fishing village of Padstow where the tiny houses
seem to tumble over each other toward the harbour. Overnight
in Penzance/Falmouth Area.
Day 6 St Ives & St Michael's
Mount
After breakfast,
travel to St Ives, an old fishing village with narrow alleyways
and steep slopes. Artists flock to St Ives to take advantage
of the unusually bright light. Visit the artist studios or the
prestigious Tate Gallery. After lunch, continue to St Michael's
Mount, near Penzance where, according to Cornish legend, the
Archangel St Michael appeared. This is a rocky island crowned
by a medieval castle and church which is accessible on foot at
low tide across a causeway or at other times by a short boat
trip. You can enjoy a guided tour of the castle. Return to your
hotel for overnight.
Day 7 Trebah Gardens &
St Mawes
This
morning start the day with a visit to Trebah Gardens which enjoy
a stunning location. The garden falls 200 feet from the 18th
century house to a private beach on Helford river. Continue to
the pretty fishing village of St Mawes where you will have time
to explore the narrow streets with tiny shops and pubs. After
lunch, continue to St Mawes Castle, built by King Henry VIII
to defend England from the French invasion. Next continue to
picturesque Newquay.
Return to your hotel for overnight.
Day 8 Somerset - London
Tour through Somerset
en route to London. Somerset is famed for its cider apples. Enjoy
a tour of Burrow Hill Cider at Pass Vale Farm. You will have
the opportunity to view the copper stills and sample the cider
and cider brandy. Continue to Winchester to visit Winchester
Cathedral which dates from 1079 with a church on this site since
648. Jane Austen is buried here in the north aisle. Nearby is
her cottage at Chawton which can also be visited en route to
your overnight in a hotel near Gatwick or Heathrow airport.
Day 9 Departure
After enjoying breakfast in your hotel, return your car at the
airport and join your flight home.
