One of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. After enjoying a leisurely conducted tour, you can mull over the distinctive character of the finished article as you sip your dram of Blair Athol 12 Year Old.

2 Caol Ila Distillery Location: Port Askaig Isle of Islay
(Pronounced 'cull-eela'). Situated on the North Eastern shores of Islay, with magnificent views across the Sound of Islay to the spectacular Paps of Jura. Watch the distillers at work, tending the six copper stills.

3 Cardhu Distillery Location: Knockando, Aberlour Banffshire
Share with us the story of the only malt distillery pioneered by a woman. The malt whisky produced here has a warmth and cleanliness of taste which experts describe as "silky" and is used in some of the award winning Johnnie Walker blends.

4 Clynelish Distillery Location: Brora Sutherland
Clynelish Distillery is located on the A9 at the popular coastal holiday town of Brora, around one hour north of Inverness. With beautiful views of the North Sea and the hills to the north - where the Clynemilton burn runs over seams of gold in the rock. With this water, the distillery produces a fruity, waxy, slightly smoky single malt.

5 Cragganmore Distillery Location: Ballindalloch Banffshire
Cragganmore Distillery, on the banks of the river Spey, is home to one of the most complex and characterful malt whiskies of the revered Speyside region.

6 Dalwhinnie Location: Dalwhinnie Inverness-shire
At over 1073 feet one of the highest distilleries in the land, is an opportunity to sample the `Gentle Spirit` of the glen. See the distillers at work, harnessing the snow-fed waters of the Allt an t`Sluic, fresh from their journey through moorland heather, producing a wonderfully full-bodied, smooth and warming malt whisky.

7 Dewar's World of Whisky Location: Aberfeldy Perthshire

10 Glenfiddich Distillery Location: Dufftown, Banffshire
Each visit starts with an evocative film about the history of the Distillery, after which we show you the very heart of our operation. Feel the heat rising from the mash tun and discover the giant washbacks, hand-made from Douglas fir and five metres high. Experience one of our traditional warehouses - whose earthen floors, stone walls and age-old atmosphere nurture this famous whisky to life.

11 Glenkinchie Location: Pencaitland Tranent East Lothian - 20 miles from Edinburgh
Come and visit the distillery and experience a real taste of Scotland. Your visit begins in our Old Malting Floors where you will have a chance to see our fantastic exhibition which hosts the renowned model distillery. You will then be met by your guide and you will by led through the production area of the distillery learning how to make our water of life. To finish your tour you are welcomed into the bar for a dram of Glenkinchie 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky.

11 The Glenlivet Location: Ballindalloch, Banffshire
Along with the other special attractions of the distillery visit, which include the magnificent scenery that surrounds it, this fascinating hands-on display of The Glenlivet and its history is not to be missed. Free admission

13 Glenmorangie Distillery Location Tain, Ross-shire

14 Glen Ord Distillery Location: Muir of Ord Ross-shire - 15 miles west of Inverness

15 Lagavulin Distillery Location: Port Ellen Isle of Islay
Situated at the picturesque Lagavulin Bay, this is an experience not to be missed. Take a tour of the distillery, see our distillers at work and view the unusual pear shaped stills. Peated malt, slow distillation and long maturation together ensure Lagavulin develops a complex, rich, peaty character. Lagavulin is a spirit which likes to take its time.

16 Macallan Distillery Location Easter Elchies Craigellachie Banffshire
An hour and a half at this famous distillery, allows you to join a 45 minute tour, stroll around the grounds, watch a video and enjoy a dram in the new Visitor Centre. Bookings are encouraged. Admission is free.

18 Royal Lochnagar Location: Balmoral Crathie Ballater Aberdeenshire
Situated right next to Balmoral Castle it is the perfect place to visit. You will be offered a guided tour of our traditional working distillery, which retains much of its original charm. See our small team of operators tend to our traditional mashtun and gleaming copper stills.

19 Speyside Cooperage Location: Dufftown Road, Craigellachie, Banffshire
Discover the ancient art of coopering at Speyside Cooperage. Our Acorn to Cask exhibition will take you on a journey through the lifecycle of the cask, where you will learn why, in years gone by, every household and every business depended on a Cooper.

See our Coopers at work, still using the traditional methods and tools. Learn what our casks are used for today and why many are shipped across the world.
